This 3D smackdown opens in theaters next weekend. Seth Rogen has found his alter-ego in B.O.B., a one-eyed gelatinous blob. By far the funniest animated character I’ve seen.
Another treat for the Bay Area crowd – the DreamWorks animators did not voyage far from home for the setting. You can see the robo-action tear along 101 near Candlestick, through the financial district, and then for a tangle on the Golden Gate Bridge.
But the highlight for me was Ginormica, the "monster name" for Susan. She is bigger and stronger – albeit less limber – than my former hearththrob from the renderfarm, Elastigirl. She really brings the B-52’s Planet Claire to life in the closing credits.
And 50’s B horror film buffs will find many allusions, from Mothra to The Blob, and a couple examples below:
